Nearly time to launch! Teaser release.

It's nearly time to unchain Tiny Tokyo and I'm totally excited. It's been a busy couple of weeks with interviews and promo work. Ill be dropping links here to the interviews when they're released which should start next week.

I spent the last few weeks pulling together a promo video for Tiny Tokyo. It was an idea I had a couple of days before leaving for Japan, to basically keep shooting rather than taking one or two frames and stop. The result is a quick little vid that feels like a stop motion clip on top of some truly awesome beats thanks to fellow Aussie Ta-Ku

So here it is, let me know what you think!

Finally, the new Cityshrinker Melbourne series!

So this is something that is long, long overdue. After spending hours in the air over a number of the worlds greatest cities, finally, i've been lucky enough to have some air time over Melbourne. Thanks to the guys over at Melbourne Heli, I was able to spend the best part of an hour flying with the door removed, strapped in a R22 helicopter. Its by far the smallest helicopter i've been in, absolutely perfect for shooting solo. So here they are, just over 40 images of my hometown, Melbourne.

Special delivery, Tiny Tokyo - Advance copy

It's pretty hard to believe that I'm actually holding Tiny Tokyo now. Its been 18 months of hard work by a lot of people to get to this point. Amazing stuff.

Yesterday I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of Tiny Tokyo, all 260 pages of it. It's been a pretty hectic year all in all, it was this time last year that James, Michael and myself made the journey to Tokyo for what would be 3 of the most intense weeks that took months to recover from. This bundled with an intense couple of months of post production and collaboration with the awesome folks at Chronicle Books and here we are, almost ready release this thing!!

Consolidation

Its a pretty special thing that after 2 years i'm still working on shots that got put down to memory.  Every time I go back to the shots I took in NYC I'm amazed with the light. Its something that you don't see in Australia. I can't even put my finger on it. How can shots taken with the same camera look so bloody different.

In the best possible way I'm totally looking forward to the end of 2013. Plans for 2014 have kicked off - I think another visit to NYC would be highly appropriate. Time to make it happen.

The journey towards Tiny Tokyo

Starting to get excited about my first book being released in 2014, Tiny Tokyo published by Chronicle Books. I'm going to spend some time here on the blog talking about the journey so far, how I came to get a book deal and what I've learnt along the way. Here is a frame from Yokohama, I wish I got to spend some more time there. Masa was indispensable while I was in Japan and on this day he showed me around his hometown. Awesome.

Chasing meteors

So tonight we went chasing meteors about 100kms north west of Melbourne. Not a huge success in that regard but I did get some time to take some frames of the southern sky.

New Zealand

So its been a little over a month since we ventured to New Zealand. We spent our time in a campervan touring the south island. You hear from everyone how beautiful it is over there however, I wasn't really prepared for just how cinematic the place is.

Here are a couple of shots, more to come.
